En el mes de junio el Torneo Rey del Ring IWRG se estará llevando a cabo con dos eliminatorias que arrojaran a sus ganadores correspondientes y tener un solo retador al título, aunque esta vez será una modalidad distinta para conocer a un nuevo rey o que se conserve, ya que las reglas cambiaran este año. El Rey del Ring ha conocido a retadores en su historia desde que puede ser apostado, estos han salido de retos directos, pero en otros casos han sido el resultado de eliminatorias. Se han realizado tres contiendas en distintos años para sacar a un retador al campeonato del Rey del Ring IWRG.
La primera, La Gran Cruzada, se daba en 2011, el ganador en ese entonces fue Trauma I, este sería el primer evento de esta magnitud con 30 luchadores, entre los cuales el de la epidemia trauma se ganaría ser retador al título Rey del Ring del Internacional Pantera en ese año, esta sería la segunda ocasión que El Pantera era retado, cuatro meses después de que Último Gladiador lo retara luego de ser el finalista del certamen.
En 2012 se realizaba la segunda edición de La Gran Cruzada, misma línea que su antecesor, el ganador se le otorgaba la oportunidad de buscar el campeonato Rey del Ring. El 5 de agosto de ese año, 30 hombres buscaban ser el contendiente número uno al título que en ese entonces estaba en manos de Oficial Factor. Hijo de Pirata Morgan fue el triunfador de la eliminatoria al vencer al Hijo de L.A. Park, días póstumos se daba la lucha por el Rey del Ring con una gran desenlace ara el filibustero.
Otro de los eventos que dio como resultado el ser retador oficial al campeonato Rey del Ring, fue La Guerra Revolucionaria, en 2013 el Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 ganó dicha competencia, se le otorgó ser retador al título al vencer a Trauma I. La lucha ante Factor, no pudo quedarse con la presea posteriormente La Guerra Revolucionaria 2015 también fue ganada por el capo, esta vez no se otorgó la misma oportunidad.
